Demand Control

Demand Charges can account for up to 35% of your utility bill. The electric demand for a facility usually varies hourly, daily, and seasonally. The supplier must have generating capacity, transformers, and distribution equipment installed to provide the peak demand at any time even if it only occurs one hour a month. Intelligent Peak Load Control is cost avoidance and improves your bottom line.

Demand Response

Demand Response Chart

What is Intelligent Demand Response? It is participating in voluntary efforts (events) to reduce kW when generation capacity is at its limits.

Emacx’s Intelligent Demand Response Technology allows for loads to be automatically controlled and monitored without sacrificing production, product quality, or building comfort while generating additional revenue. Such technologies detect the need for load shedding, communicate the demand to participating users, automate load shedding, and verify compliance with demand response programs.

How to Participate in Demand Response Programs

There are many different utility programs for Demand Response available nationwide from a half-hour ahead, day ahead, spinning reserves and many more. Incentives for participating in such programs can be very lucrative to a corporation. Events are typically called for emergency reasons when the utility grid is in danger of an overload. A customer signs up with a certified Demand Response Service Provider who administers the program, evaluates the facility with a technology provider, and selects the loads and program in which to participate.

DRC-expert and DRC-visual

Emacx’s intelligent Demand Response Controller (PDF) is a powerfully compact microprocessor that uses multiple layers of logic to enable building-wide load reduction quickly and easily. The DRC-expert continuously monitors real-time power usage and regulates curtailment according to a predefined DR event. The system enables the end user to easily program the sequence of events through an advanced scheduler. The DRC-expert controls equipment as a function of assigned priority levels and duty break parameters. When curtailment is called for, designated equipment is reduced for the duration until the demand reduction objective is achieved.

The Result: A cost-effective technology to enable easy participation in Demand Response Programs without jeopardizing operations.
